Macassar Ebony Dining Table
This table was born from a cache of Macassar ebony so scarce it spent over a decade untouched in Sulawesi, Indonesia—kept whole, still in boule form, its sequence of boards unbroken. The dealer who safeguarded it resisted selling for years, waiting for the right purpose. When I was entrusted with it, the intent was clear: to create a piece that honored both the material’s lineage and the restraint it took to preserve it.
Each board was sawn in order, preserving the tree’s original rhythm. Its deep, striated grain plays against the quiet strength of 6” x 6” white oak legs—an interplay of mass and refinement, permanence and precision.
The result isn’t merely a table; it’s a singular work that carries its provenance openly—a union of history, material truth, and earned trust in the hands that shaped it.
